How do I become a translator?

If you write fluently in two or more languages and have access to an Internet connection, you could earn money as a SpeakLike translator. Please click here to apply.

Your Account

How do I sign up?

Click on Sign Up and follow these steps:

  1. Submit your information in the form, including a password for your account
  2. After you submit the form, an email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email to confirm your email address.
  3. After you have confirmed your email address, sign in to your account and launch the SpeakLike application.

How do I buy credits?

If you are a registered SpeakLike user, sign in to your account and click on the “My Account” link at the top of the SpeakLike application. You will now be on the Buy Credits page. Follow the instructions on that page.

If you aren’t a registered SpeakLike user, sign up first. You’ll get 250 free credits to try it out. When your trial’s over, follow the instructions above to purchase credits.

Where can I update my account information?

Sign in to your account and click on the “Settings” link at the top of the SpeakLike application. On the Account Settings tab, you can update your name, preferred language, gender and timezone. To change your password, click here. You can also click Transaction History to see all the charges and credits to your account.

I forgot my password.

If you forgot your password, please visit the Reset Password page and submit your email address. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password.

How do I cancel my account?

If you want to cancel your account, please email us at support@speaklike.com. SpeakLike will refund you the monetary value of the credits remaining in your account minus the sum of any credits you received gratis in the purchase of credit packages with bulk discount pricing or through any other SpeakLike promotion.

Using SpeakLike

How do I add a contact?

  1. Invite people you know to use SpeakLike by entering their email address and language in the “Add Contact” box on the left side of the SpeakLike application.
  2. Send a message to someone by selecting “Compose” and entering an email address. If the person is already listed in the SpeakLike system, then the language is known. If the name is new, you will be asked to enter a language after you send the message. The message will be translated and sent to that person, with a notification forwarded to their email address.
  3. Once you have connected with someone, their name will appear in your chat list. You can send an email message to that person anytime. Once it is translated, an email notification will be sent to them. If the person is online and logged in to SpeakLike, an orange symbol will appear to the left of their name. If a translator is available to translate chat messages, a green symbol will appear to the left of the language.

How do I use SpeakLike Chat?

To use SpeakLike Chat:

  1. Sign in to your SpeakLike account
  2. Add contacts to your list by typing in their e-mail address in the “Add Contact” area, selecting their language, and clicking “Submit.” Contacts who are not registered SpeakLike users will receive an invitation to register. (Contacts you’ve exchanged emails with will already be on your list.)
  3. When your contacts are registered and online, an orange icon will appear to the left of their address. When translators are available for their language, a green icon will appear to the right of their address.
  4. To start chatting, double-click a contact that you see as online and for who translators are available. Then begin to chat as you would with any instant messaging application.

How do I use SpeakLike Email?

To use SpeakLike Email:

  1. Sign in to your SpeakLike account
  2. Click the “Compose” tab. You’ll find a familiar e-mail interface.
  3. Type your message in your own language
  4. Enter any email address in the “To” field
  5. Click “Send”
  6. If the recipient is not a registered SpeakLike user, you’ll be prompted to choose their language from a drop-down list

Your message will be translated by our translation team and a notification will be sent to your recipient’s regular e-mail box. If they are a registered SpeakLike user, they will receive a link to read and respond to your message. If they are not a registered SpeakLike user, they will be required to register before reading and responding.

How do I use the SpeakLike iPhone Photo Translator?

To use the SpeakLike iPhone Photo Translator:

  1. Download the app from the iTunes App Store
  2. Make sure you have credits in your account
  3. Launch the app on your iPhone
  4. Take a picture or copy-paste some text to translate. If you need further help, tap the i icon in the app.

How do I use SpeakLike Text?

To use SpeakLike Text:

  1. Sign in to your SpeakLike account
  2. Click the “Translate Text” tab
  3. Copy-paste or type any text into the form
  4. Select the original language and the translation language from the drop-down lists
  5. Click “Submit.” You will receive an e-mail notification when your translation is complete, and it will appear in the “My Translations” tab.

How do I use SpeakLike for Twitter?

To use SpeakLike for Twitter:

  1. Sign in to your SpeakLike account
  2. Click “Settings”
  3. Click the SpeakLike for Twitter tab and choose your desired settings. Your Tweets will be translated accordingly and posted to your Twitter account (you may specify different Twitter accounts for the translated Tweets).

Does SpeakLike Chat work with other instant messaging applications?

Not at this time. To instant message across languages with SpeakLike, you must launch the SpeakLike application use the Chat feature.

Which browsers does SpeakLike support?

SpeakLike supports Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3. SpeakLike should work on Safari and Chrome as well, but those browsers are not officially supported.

When are translators available?

Our translators are available 24/7 to translate text, emails, Tweets and other content.

You can find out when translators are available to translate chats by looking at the icon next to the languages listed in your contact list. If translators are available, the icon will be green.

Customer Support

How do I contact customer support?

SpeakLike Customer Support is available by email at support@speaklike.com. We will respond to customer support requests within 48 hours.

What if I’m not satisfied with my translation?

If you are not satisfied with any SpeakLike translation, contact us at support@speaklike.com. You can either:

  1. Request a revised translation of the text in question, or
  2. Request a refund in credits for the value of the translation

Only one free revision per unsatisfactory translation is permitted.
