What days and hours can I translate?
SpeakLike will be available 24/7, though during our beta period we will have more limited hours for some language pairs.
How much time should I expect to commit to SpeakLike.com?
We ask that translators commit to translating consistently week to week during the year. After you sign up, you can work out a schedule with your coordinator.
What are the requirements and qualifications needed to be a SpeakLike translator?
We are seeking translators with some college experience or who are currently attending college. Though experience as an interpreter or translator is not required, it is certainly helpful. Requirements vary based on where you reside.
For U.S. and Canadian Translators:
- Currently reside in either the U.S. or Canada and have a valid Social Security or social insurance number.
- Eligible to work in either the U.S. or Canada.
What are my duties and responsibilities as a translator?
- Be available for work during your scheduled hours.
- Provide quality online chat translation.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all SpeakLike policies and procedures.
- Check email often for messages from the SpeakLike Management Team.
- Pay varies based on your experience. SpeakLike offers competitive compensation.
- You will be paid as an independent contractor. This means that taxes are not deducted from your payment. Compensation will be documented as required in your place of residence.
- Payments are made electronically by PayPal or another service on the 4th business day of each month.
- More information on rates will be provided once your application has been submitted.
I have a full-time job. Can I translate on the side?
You can translate any time your schedule permits during SpeakLike hours.
If I have direct clients, can I use SpeakLike with them?
This option is not currently available.
What is online translating with SpeakLike.com?
Online translating with SpeakLike.com is a service that lets people chat with 1 to 10 other people across two or more languages.
Who are the translators?
We choose translators from all over the world who are thoroughly screened for their translation abilities.
I'm an interpreter. Can I use SpeakLike with voice?
Your experience as an interpreter is definitely a plus because you are used to real-time translation which will be necessary in order to provide a fast response. However, you will not be interpreting with speech.

Customers cover a range of people who are interested in real-time translation chat services.
What is the SpeakLike Translation Chat Client?
SpeakLike Translation Chat Client has additional features that allow you to see incoming messages.
